One Long Hot Memorial Day

{Rufus}

This has been a long weekend. I was reunited with some of my best friends Friday while we stuffed our faces with good pizza and curly fries.  Then I went down to Maryland for a wedding reception that was beyond beautiful.  It literally looked like it was out of a magazine.  And I am kicking myself because I brought my camera and then forgot to bring it to the reception. It was absolutely stunning and I think everyone had a good time.  They also have three stinking cute pitbulls that I made friends with. I love pitbulls and then only picture I managed to take was a semi-decent picture of one of them.  Then today, Memorial Day.  I have spent quite a few Memorial Days hot and sweating in a wool band uniform but it does not compare to today.  Those days were awful but today I had to work and the zoo was bumping.  It was also 90 degrees and there was so much work to be done outside. I am utterly spent and I'm curling into a ball and passing out right now.

Thursday: A Recap

{Pretty roses I stole from the rape garden to liven up my desk}

This weekend my best friend came home.  Then I got a sore throat.
Monday I made a delicious dinner. It made me like mushrooms. Then I had dinner set for the week.
Tuesday I was sick.  I was coughing like crazy and felt all around not well so I left work at noon. Then I came home and napped.
Wednesday I fell in the duck pond at work.  I was collecting the eggs and my leg slipped, causing my entire right leg up to my butt to go sliding in.  How I managed to not fall completely in or break the egg in my hand I do not know.  Then I had a gross wet foot for the rest of the day.
Today I’m going apartment hunting, still blowing my nose and wearing full on make up to make me feel good after my duck-and-terrapin-water soaked leg yesterday.
Tomorrow I’m seeing the rest of my best friends from home. Then I'm going to a wedding party.

No Words Required

{Naomi's beautiful decor}

Do you know what it’s like to have a conversation without saying anything? That feeling that a person knows exactly what you’re thinking without putting the slightest bit of effort into it? I do. I love that feeling. My best friends can read my mind. We have whole conversations by simply sharing a look or have conversations that consist of no subject matter but just words like “what if” “and then” “but the” “right, so” “how about” “yes”. And that’s the end of the conversation. I miss always having people around who know what I’m thinking. Not many people at school have mastered that skill yet; they’re still trying to keep up with my fast paced talking. Lucky for me though my favorite people in the world are gracing my presence this week and we are having many conversations both spoken and not.  Funny how having a conversation without words is what made me realize how much I missed having people who know me so well constantly around.

The Long and Short of It

My last few posts have been short and sweet because I try not to put too much on here. I need some air of mystery; writing everything on here would just make it too easy.  I still want people to have a reason to talk to me.  But it’s impossible to talk to everyone, especially when all my best friends are currently in Europe.  They’re coming home soon though and I could not be more excited! I cannot wait to attack them with hugs and catch up over some good old American food.  This has been a long week and I can barely believe it’s already May ninth. Where is the time going I ask you?! But I got yellow trained at work, which now means I get to handle more animals. Three banded armadillos are one of my new favorite animals. They are so fantastic.  Sugar gliders-not so much.  My love of the Kentucky Derby was ruined at work the other day when I was enlightened to the horrible way the horses are treated.  I still love the event; I just wish people cared more about animal welfare. It’s awful the way people view ethics when large sums of money become involved.  And Poe the raven flirts with my constantly, he's my new boyfriend.  Besides that, do you remember in this post the mermaid-esque nails I did?  I have yet to upload my nail make-up post, but you will see when I do that I only ever put pinks, reds, oranges, and purples on my nails. Any shade in those color ranges I go for; it’s just what I like. However, that blue color on my nails which was Essie’s Trophy Wife kept catching my eye every time I saw it in the stores and for weeks I was just like “Emma, buy the nail polish already”. And like come on with a name like that how can you not? Trophy Wife? That’s so perfect.  But then I borrowed my roommate’s nail polishes and she had it! So I snatched that right on up along with her Essie luxe effects.  Now that I know that I really do like it I will probably have to actually buy it for myself.  Also, I have been trying to figure out how to do this one special hairstyle for months and I finally figured out how to do it and what it’s being called. So I blew out my hair and that is my project for tomorrow. Once I perfect it I’ll post a picture :)  I finally got most of my stuff all organized in my apartment.  Although I have been trying to hang up my Arsenal scarf for weeks and haven’t figured out a way to make it look good yet. My postcard collection isn’t going up yet either. I think that’ll just have to wait until next fall when I have my new apartment.  Speaking of things that have to do with my time abroad, my favorite British person Tom, my RLS from London, is officially visiting this summer for two weeks! I am so excited to show him a good time in this lovely city and practice my Britishness for him.  It's also frappuccino happy hour at Starbucks this week which I plan on participating in tomorrow. That’s about all that’s going on with me right now. Here are some things that are currently inspiring me. Remember, at the moment I’m planning a bridal shower, working at a zoo, in a chem lab, baking a lot, and being myself. So as usual, the things that inspire me are far and wide.

Kentucky Derby

Mint Juleps, beautiful horses, people dressed to the nines, bets, competition, and Big Hats.  Love the Kentucky Derby.  It's a life goal of mine to go at least once and wear a fantastic hat.  But for now I will have to settle for a party next year.

Getting Lost

{Books to get lost in}

I spent three hours today in Barnes and Noble by myself reading, hot beverage in hand. It was wonderful.
Sometimes you need to get lost.
